What are VIA Character Strengths:
Everyone has innate aptitudes and abilities, and leveraging these strengths is the key to professional excellence and personal fulfilment. Research shows that knowing and applying our unique signature character strength increases our capacity to be fulfilled, have greater life satisfaction, and we are better able to overcome adversity. They underpin the PERMA positive psychology framework.
Recent Research supports:
- An understanding of strengths encourages people to value difference which increases diversity and positive inclusion. Teams made up of people who differ in strengths tend to be more creative and to perform better.
- Apart from being more likely to achieve their goals, people who use their strengths experience higher levels of energy, well-being and authenticity (the sense that I am being who I am, rather than acting in a certain way)
- A focus on strengths in teams allows for the efficient allocation of tasks and, with greater role flexibility, encourages cooperation. The positive emotions generated by the use of strengths enable social integration.

What is the difference between the Top 5 and Total 24 Reports?
According to our Education Director, Dr. Ryan Niemiec, one of the foundational principles to remember when learning about your strengths is: all 24 character strengths matter. This essential concept is the basis for the Total 24 Report. The Total 24 Report includes analysis of your full ranking of character strengths from highest to lowest, as well as different perspectives on how you express your strengths. It is your complete, personalized guide to understanding your true self and how you interact with others and operate in the world.
The Top 5 Report provides a graph of your full profile, and focuses on your greatest strengths. While all 24 character strengths matter in your life, your signature strengths matter most. These are the strengths that come most naturally to you and are easiest for you to express. The Top 5 Report is a great place to start to learn about how your core strengths impact all areas of your life and how others see you.
We have supported over 8,000 people to discover their strengths.
“"Jane came and ran a day workshop with us focused on identifying our individual strengths so that we could understand how they could come together to contribute to the objectives of ‘the whole’. It was a great day of theory and practice, as it helped bring teams into a closer working relationship through some fun exercises, but also left us with some practical tools to assist with collaborative problem-solving."”Aaron CrowtherExecutive Director, Communications & Brand St John Perth
