Mental Toughness is a personality trait that determines your ability to perform consistently under stress and pressure and is closely related to qualities such as character, resilience, grit and perseverance.
A personality trait which determines, in large part, how people respond to challenge, stress and pressure, irrespective of their circumstances.
Professor Peter Clough, Professor of Applied Psychology at Manchester Metropolitan University who is a pioneer on research into Mental Toughness, further describes a mentally tough person as
“someone who is comfortable in their own skin, can take whatever comes along in their stride and mostly enjoy the challenge”.
Mental Toughness isn’t being uncaring or self-centred – it is about being confident that you can prevail and not give up, even if the odds are stacked against you.
Our high quality online psychometric measures are used to assess Mental Toughness in an individual. They have been developed in collaboration between Professor Peter Clough of Huddersfield University and formerly Manchester Metropolitan University and Doug Strycharczyk, Managing Director of AQR.
MTQ assessments are reliable and well-validated psychometric measures, which are easy to use, and the results are simple to understand and analyse. Accredited Mental toughness practitioners can only use them. MTQ assessments are:
A 68 item measure that provides scores for overall Mental Toughness. It assesses
The 4 Cs:
When we work with leaders – each person takes the online assessment, either an MT48 or MTQ Plus, and has a 1:1 debrief with an accredited practitioner.
The team then comes together for an engaging, interactive workshop or virtual training that provides a team profile and delivers strategies to support mental toughness in core domains.
Team members may choose to share results with the broader group, although during the session, may be paired with someone who has a domain at a similar level on the scale to support psychological safety.
This is a positive and empowering experience that enables leaders to see their areas where they are mentally strong and mentally sensitive. Immensely powerful for self-growth.
Interesting well worth it. Enjoyed the topic and the concept of the circle of influence and circle of concern.
