About VIA Institute of Character :
About VIA Is at the heart Positive Psychology and is underpinned by the belief that greater potential lies in focusing on what is right about people rather than what is wrong.

What is Positive Psychology?
As defined by the Positive Psychology Center at the University of Pennsylvania, "Positive Psychology is the scientific study of the strengths and virtues that enable individuals and communities to thrive. The field is founded on the belief that people want to lead meaningful and fulfilling lives, to cultivate what is best within themselves, and to enhance their experiences of love, work, and play."
VIA Character Strengths Are "The Backbone Of Positive Psychology"
In 1998 Dr. Neal Mayerson, President of the Manuel D. and Rhoda Mayerson Foundation and a clinical psychologist, connected with Dr. Martin Seligman, renowned researcher, scholar, and author to explore the newly forming field of Positive Psychology. They discovered that a key construct in the science of Positive Psychology is character; specifically, the characteristics that define what's best about people. Through the support of the Mayerson Foundation and the leadership of Dr. Seligman and Dr. Chris Peterson the VIA Classification of Character Strengths, as well as the landmark publication Character Strengths and Virtues (VIA's handbook), was written. Upon its publication it was hailed as the "backbone of Positive Psychology".

Co- founded by Stephan Mardyks and David Covey who are world renown experts in global expansion for the training, consulting & coaching industry. Jane is very excited to be a partner with this outstanding organisation.

Why is this essential to today’s workplace
According to Gallup’s report on the State of the Global Workplace: Employee Engagement Insights for Business Leaders Worldwide,
• 24 percent of Australian adults who work for an employer are engaged
• 60 percent are not engaged
• 16 percent are actively disengaged.

First, we should look at the factors driving the trend. The day is still 24 hours long but employees find it harder and harder to squeeze in everything they need to do for work, home and family during that time. Complicating the issue of time management is the fact that employees are asked to do more with less at work— this means they’ve taken on additional job duties or that they must be more creative in finding budget-friendly ways to accomplish an objective.
The result? Employees are stressed and distracted by a million different things, just when employers need to boost their productivity and focus.

The good news is that true leaders can take steps to develop engaged employees. Organisations that understand, value and appreciate their employee’s strengths and energy can raise workers’ productivity levels and boost engagement and productivity. Everyone has natural proficiencies and gifts, and applying these strengths is the key to greater productivity and job satisfaction.
